'Twas a very fine day in 11 Mile canyon today. The weather was terrific, the S Platte yielded plenty of fish and the crowds were modest till mid-day. I parked normally near the last bridge but fished first above the bridge behind the weirs beginning ~10am. I rigged midgey and Jaun's money midge did the trick on my first brown from 11 Mile section this year and a nice 18" cutbow. The corner was again occupied all day so I moved around him to some riffles & runs where Kala & I had done well but I didn't have the ticket during midge and smallish BWO hatch at noon. I moved down to a run and fooled a nice 19" cutbow on Destiny's Child. I moved on again somewhat puzzled. Most of the upper section was occupied so I went all the way to the fence and caught some more - but I lost something big I was targeting when the plan worked but after 3 min, she found a log and moved under it to break me off, grrr. I was wielding the Rodfather 3 wt and maybe if I'd had more power I could've coaxed her away from the log move. But fishing for 20"ers with a 3 weight is a blast. When spinner sipping started at the head, I headed back to the car for lunch and reconnoitering. After lunch I drove downstream to the two tunnels area for the first time this year - the fish would be smaller but hopefully there'd be fewer folks. There was only one guy so I walked the road down to my put in below the tunnels and fished back up. I did well on smaller 15"-17" cutbows - like that shown after the flier. Notably a big BWO hatch occurred ~3pm with #18 mayflies... I rigged properly and scored.
