250th With The Fam ~ Porkies, F1, And Bar Hop 04Jul26

With LPC still under repair and the Silverstone F1 race weekend we headed to Denver to enjoy July 4th weekend. Kala & I spun up in the FlyBox and MLC tooled over in Linux. We scored the garage as there was weather pending ~ thanks Kala & Letha. We can't be out ripping with the team but display the logo proudly. For the Great Britain Grand Prix, Kimi in Mercedes again took pole with the Ferarris close; Kimi's car failed late and Charles LeClerc brought is Ferarri home to the checkered flag first. Grest for him; good for Ferrari showing competitive with the Mercedes cars; fun for the Alpine Rippers fantasy league. Good for the Coffin's to be out in the sports cars and best was LPC with stunning progress on the new hip. Dave made eggs and we watched the race.

 

After the post-race interviews and shows, we birthed a July 4th celebration scheme to catch  some brews and such in the 'hood. We started at the Lowry Beer Garden )Hanger 2) outside (but hot in the shade). We moved to Cerebral's main brewing location in Aurora and enjoyed their many great recipes; Cerebral is my fav in DEN and I'd not been to the big spot. Then, Matt noted a nearby well-reviewed cidery and we stopped by there. Vanishing West was very good despite the sweetness. It was a nice day out with the kid.

Ripping The Brewers With AM ~ Fun In COS 16Apr26

Alan and I finally closed a plan for a mini-rip in the FlyBox with beers at our best local brewers. I brought the car and AM brought the card for many of our short pours. We hit: WestFax, Fossil, Cerberus (dinner too), Gunslinger, Goat Patch, and Urban Animal. We met some great patrons, great brewers, and great collaborators. A fine tour with a mini-rip back to Peregrine with my newish mate.

Taylor Tomlinson Comedy Show @ Paramount & Cars ~ Funny Stuff With MLC & Porsches In The 'Hood 26Sep25 & 28Sep25

I rambled down from Summit to Denver for a comedy show on Friday. Matt got the tix for a favorite of ours. We met at West of Surrender for dinner before the Taylor Tomlinson show @ Paramount next door in downtown DEN. West was fine bar food. We had assigned seats to see TT but were called aside to the ticket window for improved tix as big cameras were placed in our view-path. Might it be the 4th Netflix special recording?... probably not.

Zach Towers opened the show and was occasionally funny. He's a gay guy from LA and played to that vector, so plenty was unrelateable for me. Taylor's latest stuff was hysterical again, as usual, but I surely preferred the 2nd half of her act where she was dealing sex and family stuff, rather than the 1st half which was very much about religion and growing up in a staunchly religious family. She warned us for sure with the tour title: The Save Me Tour. She sold 4 straight days in Denver! It was good and great going out with TK. The Paramount was beautiful and, as I've declared before, the sound there is great... just voices today but well-balanced at our seats. I couldn't take pics during the acts so...

MLC and I debated where to rip all weekend and at the end of the day I backed out of a good northern route rip. I was a bit dubious of the leaf-peeping crowdation this weekend. Ultimately I did errands in the FlyBox and then scanned the PCA (Porsche Club of America) social event near Monument. I didn't buy the $35 pork sandwich, nor the $20 unlimited cocktails (weird AF for a car event), and Matt didn't come down, so I just walked the parking lot. I found some nice rigs, including mine, so the Alpine Chapter of PCA might be worthy, but might be slow drivers too... lots of older rigs. 1st is me and then some others... 911s, sure; SUVs, sure; Caymans, sure; but mine was the only Boxster GTS; I did spy the weird 928 and a 911 air car classic! It's a pretty cool club if you like performance driving... these were all super-clean, as expected; I hope they are driven ~ I guess I need to go 'in' next time.

Pike's Peak Hill Climb Race ~ Pike's Peak Or Bust... It Was A Bust 22Jun25

Matt & I arose at 3am to grab our fan bus to Devil's Playground at ~13Kft elevation on Pike's Peak. We grabbed P1 on the first bus out. We chose the highest vantage point from which to view the race due to the large number of turns visible from that point. It was very crowded in the line of cars, and a few buses, to get up the PP Highway to parking spots before the race began ~ I slept a bit on the ride. We liked that we didn't drive and wear out clutches. We arrived and quickly gathered our packs with extra layers and the beer and food coolers for the long day of racing. We hustled out and found a spectacular viewing position.

Unfortunately 80mph winds through our area and @ the peak made it cold and uncomfortable. Nonetheless we stuck it out for hours in all the clothes we brought. We secured our site eventually and went back to the bus to learn of many start time delays due to wind. I get it, the PPHC cars are light and have huge wings and driver safety had to be their greatest concern. Ultimately though the race was shortened to about 50%, finishing at Glen Cove about 5 miles down the mountain. And we, at Devil's Playground were basically stuck without a view of the race. The bus ultimately did leave during about the 3rd class of cars to race; but not with us! They were ultimately only going down 3 miles to a huge queue of vehicles ~ a move to "get closer" to the action, but not much. Matt got a hitchhike ride down and caught up with the bus to drop stuff off and I hiked down and eventually got a short ride to the lineup; I caught up with Matt at the bus and we headed down along the big queue to "view" spot #2. We could only really get to the point a mile after the finish line in time for some of the race and grabbed a seat near the after-drive lineup of cars. Some of them knew the day was shot for race fans mostly and did burnouts in front of us.

We did see the Porsche 911 GT4 Car champ across from us and did see the ultimate winner in a garishly air winged and diffused Mustang E bespoke car idle by. Loni ended in 3rd in class but the turbos weren't as differentiated from the naturally aspirated cars with the course and elevation shortened. And from our un-viewing spot we did meet some cool folks from NE and ND ~ at least Matt & I only drove 25 min to get here.

I did snap a pic of the starting line as we finally left the racecourse as we headed back to our cars. I understand the cautions of shortening and delaying the race... I less understood the need to abandon us and have us hike to the bus. Maybe we'll try again but the mountain always has the last say.

I also will add that I did have to go to the Porsche shop in COS for a quick fix and went into the showroom to see what they had. WOW! This is best inventory of cool Porsches I've ever seen ~ no comparison to others. There were 2 $425K 911 GT3RSs, a yellow Singer of unknown high value, and a 918 Spyder hybrid worth about $1M.

TK Scores THE Ride ~ Porsche 911 Twin Turbo 991.2; Meanwhile Wine 15Apr25

Sure it's tax day but he doesn't seem to care... he believes this hard asset will appreciate anyway. MLC finally won a bid on a Porsche 911 after months of auctions/attempts/rejections, and the like... this is the ultimate fun car. He got a '17 model 991.2 with twin turbos, new tires, full bra, just 17K miles from one owner, 3 yr Porsche bumper to bumper warranty, in pristine condition. It goes so fast so fast, and tracks on rails... amazing. The interior is gorgeous but we now know it will carry golf clubs in the front seat. I received her while Matt was at work ~ he had it shipped via covered flatbed from Danbury, CT.

Matt's a definite tech bro as code jock and 911 owner. He's groping for an appropriate esoteric software reference to use as a vanity plate. True the insurance premium prices and Denver County sales tax & registration costs have begun to land but what's not to like. Matt even now has the summer race car driver haircut to boot.

He's all in, and now wants me in too ~ daily I get naturally aspirated Boxter S offers from across the US. Hmmm. Returning from Texas and concerts it was fun to be invited to the American Wine Society's new Pike's Peak chapter's inaugural event by our great friends Scott & Peggy. Ok, they got us tix after other chapter members took ill. Bummer for them but bully for us. So... we're sipping red wine above the blood and thunder; glad to be back.
