Karen & Jimmy Visit Summit 11Jul19-15Jul19

We were pleased to finally attract our good friend Karen and her mate Jimmy to Summit Co for a WE. They thought we "packed it in" and "might kill them if they stayed longer" but really it was just us hanging out with great old friends. They arrived Thu eve and we mainly banged around the Nest and ate D&K's Mex stuff and talked, but we did introduce them to the great ORB beers.
Friday we briefly hit the Eagles Nest Wild for a hike after berries. We checked out the boat but didn't sail as we were off to Breck for a distillery tour (Karen loved the angel's share in the barrel room) and some bourbon before dining @ our fav Aurum there. So cool - the hostess now knows me and, to our enjoyment, comped us an amazing new appetizer - corn ribs; we went early to hit happy hour of course and everyone loved it. We did taste @ Broken Compass, including the coconut porter, on our return. We stopped atop Loveland Pass too on the way back but still caught the final songs of blues artist XX at Dillon Marina. Just another day in Summit Co.
We rested well but Saturday we tried Palisade peach Blinis to start to day and then circumnavigated the tarn below the Nest on a nice loop hike - I saw a young bull moose but unfortunately I was leading and spooked him too deep for all to see. Columbines were out to our guests' cameras' eyes. We needed nachos - no bette than Dillon Dam with brews. We were headed to Breck again for the Breck Summer Beer Fest and while awesome as to ABV and fully enjoyed - few brewers brought kegs, none brought new and so many from Summit and Eagle were absent... must be a protest of Breck and pricing. Kala was designated driver and we arrived safe at the Nest to a burger contest - Karen is a spectacular cook and I goaded her into a grill off. We tasted a Korean offer from Dave and a Southwest-French fusion from Karen (she fuckin' topped her's with a sunny-side-up egg, WTF); super sous chef Kala helped both teams. We decided is was a draw but we drank way too much to celebrate - and of course I was introducing the team to new music all along the way, as well as to the 9.8KFt spa experience. Yeah - Hub and Melvin have gr8 experimental hazies - woohoo.
On Sunday, all I could muster was a weak "howdy" and a modest breakfast prep as I hit the couch - Karen couldn't drink either. We introduced our friends to Black Mirror and then ultimately headed out to fish the ponds along 10 Mile Ck, top Vail Pass very briefly and then chill at Copper Mtn listening to classic country noob, Riley Green. Good times. Come back anytime - sooner is better - I'm off to NW WYO.
