Nice 19ers On The Arkansas ~ 1st Mayflies 03Apr23

I was excited to field trial the repaired Rodfather Colorado Series 2 today on the Arkansas River tailwater below Pueblo Rez. It was as strong as expected and gained experience landing a number of trout today, including several 19"ers... no 20+"ers yet. Most were taken on a new crop of Pop Tops I tied yesterday ~ mainly the grey and green. But, other flies worked too, like the MHFBPT... I saw two mayflies and tied one on and it worked well. I fished out of the Nature Center on a gorgeous day with flows down to a measly 55cfs; it drew quite a few fishermen out to the river but many oddly left early. I arrived late and fished 10:30a-2p before lunch and then 2:30p-3:30p nearer the Nature Center building. I ultimately caught a number of cutbows and rainbows and left as the wind became constant and full of dust.
