Fishing Gore Ck 09Aug23

I jumped Vail Pass into Eagle Co, again with traffic stops for one lane travel, to fish Gore Ck again before it gets too thin. I headed to the end of the frontage at West Vail only to find a guy just entering ahead of me. This is really just a one-pass section so made a few casts after suiting up but them let him to it and I moved up to the dawg park section. I was at least first in here when soon enough a guy came down to the river; fortunately he left me to it and I was able to make a full pass next to the dogs. My rig on the RFT3 in summer often is a UV or orange #16 chubby with a yarn caddis or wired up ice caddis and a black midge or mayfly trailing. The rig  was standard summer again today and while the fish were fewer and smaller (I was a smidge early and I don't have the most productive DCEZWD40 here) and I had but one cutbow on top action, I did catch some stuff. I fought but lost larger brown on drowned log.

After a full pass with the dogs I headed to the Gore Ck mouth with the Eagle. This used to be my favored section but pipeline construction has long disrupted the quality. I hadn't been here in well over a year so I thought I'd check. I arrived with a couple already down there; I moved a couple hundred yards ahead to the bridge for a short pass. Meh, some previously best holes didn't produce as in the past, or maybe my stilted bug choices dampened my catch. I caught some tiny bows & browns on caddis and Jimmy's Axe.
