We're headed to Ireland soon and I took the last best Front Range shot to fish @ 11 Mile Canyon. I'm not fishing there (despite it being the 2nd formative of fly fishing on the planet). I caught gobs of ~14" browns and 'bows on a top tunnels pass on a day with relatively few-ish folks in the canyon (25 cars to the dubl tunnels + campers). I went 'cause flows were again above 100cfs there (I don't like stressing the fish below 100cfs there) and flows at the PT were 800cfs , unstable wading for my oldish form ~ simple choice among my local waters. Gorgeous weather till 1:15pm when I finished my pass and needed to decide whether to move up and fish again or jet for home. Winds started to rage in the canyon and inbound clouds were dark. I chose to head home and hiked up the steep bank above the tunnels; on the way home I hit torrential downpours in Woodland Pk and in the canyons to COS. Big hail, bigger rains, roads with standing & 6" flowing H2O... skating baby ~ I was super pleased I'd just flipped to new shoes on the Crusher; they were great in the canyon and through WPk ~ sketchy ride. Back to the river experience ~ I chose a #16 chubby/UV as indicator (given I saw caddis sign) and my wired up ice caddis dropper with darkish midges below that ('cause I have no mayflies due to biff on Eagle). Yeah... crushed it on caddis on SPlatte right now... 50% on #16 chubby and 50% on trailers ~ mostly caddis fortunately. Killer PMD hatch at noon but I had no mimic. Grrr... See y'all in August!
