Big Bugs Of Summer, Almost 24Jul20

It was nice to be back on the post-runoff waters fishing. I hit the tailwater below Green Mtn Rez today at 380cfs. I figured it is about green drake time so I led with a drake nymph I tie, followed by a caddis pupa and a mayfly nymph. I saw very little bug sign this day actually - just two BWOs lingered to July and no drakes yet; maybe one caddis. I asked some fishermen who might know, there were 11 cars in the lot - 2020 is Covid fishing, and they indicated no drakes yet. Still, my strategy was sound as I caught a half dozen browns. My catch rate went up as I switched to hopper-dropper when something attacked my bobber -  a #12 olive stimi as the floater. I got several to turnover, or missed the hookup, and more to take the drake. The caddis worked too. I caught one nice 18.5"er and the rest were ~14" or so... like these. Continuing as notable is the remarkable lack of rainbows/cutbows I am catching this year on this section - something has changed. I took off when a storm rolled over me with thunder & lightening... the selfie came "out of the Blue."
