Epic Swing Day 10 - Green River Tailwater Below Fontenelle Dam 07May19

It was a gorgeous morning on the Green River and I went out to conquer. Tried as I did some big fish in backwater munching midges wanted none of my clumsy casts at them. Unfortunately too after several hours I had nothing to show but a tiny rainbow caught on a mayfly nymph. There were no familiar structures on this wide shallow "plains" river - it was easy wading as no rocks or other structures and finding the channels and "tongues" was easy too. So, while I didn't see either of the other fisherman catch anything, it must be me. Or this section of the Green is unheralded for a reason. I did find the weeping rock where a spring led into the river (no pic). I cannot recommend this spot - its remote and the fishing is not too good IMO. About noon a serious front of blackness descended and I raced back to the camper and packed up. I got it all done in <40 min as the sleet started to hit. I drove out the dirt road (getting everything very messy) and headed to Steamboat, accelerating my journey.
Postscript: discussing my Green River experience in the section with a guide in Cutthroat Angles I learned that wading cannot be done - local boating is needing to float .5 mile drifts between effective channels for 22" cutthroats. Maybe true - doesn't work for me anyway.
