1st Season Outing To BHSC Of Arkansas River 08May21

It sucked. I was mainly doing recon in BHSC to see if the lower portion had recovered sufficiently from the Hayden Fire silt blow out several years ago. Not really... I made a half pass there and got one strike yielding one fish. I saw modest caddis sign and minuscule BWO sign. I saw no fish and the bottom was covered with silt on the edges. I doubt it's recovered - or it is far from fishing great as when 50 fish days were well known, but at 270cfs, recent weather, and May 8th, it should be decent. After 90min I hopped in the car and headed above Coaldale to Rincon. Again there just one fish on BWO. So, it could be the day - up & down the gorgeous Ark. The winds were howling, so a frustrating day of wind knots out there. I again saw just a bit of bug-sign and no fish. Water was olive brown 12" viz up there too. Campgrounds along the Ark are open and folks are there. Maybe it was Saturday, maybe it was wind, and then maybe it was just me but the Ark freestone is far from epic thus far. ~11"ers (don't really know as he didn't reach my scale - toothy though, like he owned it) like this Scottish, but other one was a German. Meh.
