Fine Dining In Flannel And Fishing Jurassic 01May21-02May21

Kala and I were lucky to find Daryle and Yvette available for a nice Sat evening in Summit. We went for fine dining but couldn't score a rez in time and many spots were closed till later in mud season. We chose Pure Kitchen in Frisco ultimately but decided to grab our May can allocation at ORB before. We tasted several new hazies and DD and I agreed that High Alpine, a DIPA, was the best so we scored our May cans in that. Great time out after a long hiatus from seeing them.

While in Summit I fished the Blue River below Green Mtn Rez. I left the Nest at 54° @ 9am in sunshine and once on the north side of Silverthorne a squall hit and the rains began - by the time I arrived at the Green Mtn Rez turnoff it was 34° and snow... grrr. I headed in anyway - bundled up for a day forecast to bring the weather. Flows have dropped to just ~75cfs here - almost the lowest I've ever seen.I saw precious little bug-sign but some midges, one mayfly. and one caddis. The water was pale green but decent visibility. At my turnaround point I spied a fish and set up and cast - bam, decent 17"er brown on the first cast. So, I'm thinking "awesome." That was it for the day... except for shit weather, of which I got plenty. I didn't see fish - I didn't see redds, much less cutbows frolicking. Hmmm... I think this fishery has changed from the pressure this past year. Golly it's gorgeous though.

I trialed the new Patagonia Swiftcurrent wading pants which worked fine. They are flabby and light but solid - doing a little thigh sweeping song as I hike. Plus, with elastic vs zipper, they are harder to put on than the G3s - harder still with lots of clothes for the weather.
