Happy Cinco de Mayo! Whipped those crazy French, so celebrate with tacos and tequila. Yet, on topic, folks know I appreciate a little SKA in my playlists and I initially reviewed the "old" SKA bands HERE; it included plenty of SKA punk. While this style has waned a bit, it's not fallen out of favor in some pockets and may even be resurging - and I like it. There is plenty of street SKA core and SKA punk in Mexico but my Spanish is non-existent. Several sources are "signing" bands or playing SKA, especially Asian Man Records (Mike Park), Bad Time Records and Stomp Records - click through to bands by label.
Let's take modern as a band formed after 2005 or so, and I won't rehash one of my favorite mod SKA bands, The Interrupters, but just add to that list with some others. There is always social comment to SKA tunes. To take in some modern SKA bands (plenty of SKA punk again) try:
Kill Lincoln/Wash DC/2008
Joystick!/New Orleans/2008
Catbite/Philadelphia/2018 |
We Are The Union/Ann Arbor/2005
Bad Operation/New Orleans/2019
The Abruptors/Buffalo/2015
Sure, there are a number of other, some older, including the incredible Mike Park project, The Bruce Lee Band, and many others. If your inclination is less punk (double speed & a bit angry) then classic feel good and dance good might be better - still, I prefer an edge. If you want, check these SKA tracks...

Spitfire/Watford, UK/2013

Plus, if i's NorCal punk you prefer... Mike signed Grumpster... very good.
