Mayflies & CutBows On The PT 19Apr22

Today there were real BWO mayfly hatches about 10am and again at 2pm on the PT out of Nature Center. The bugs were the larger #18-20 spring versions as expected. It wasn't crowded @ the NC per se but I was jumping holes with another successful fisherman all morning there. We were pretty close to each other but not in each other's ways - and both caught plenty. I had my first 20 fish day of '22 but oddly didn't catch any over 20" today. The ones I caught were not as big as hoped in general but always feisty. Got another sucker too. The flows were actually reduced a smidge and it was 53° to start at 9:30am and 80° by 3pm. The flows are too low for this time of year. The cutbow spawn is still on but winding down on this section and added flows would spread the fish out more - they are still fairly concentrated.

I actually had lunch at the car in NC parking and fished downstream a smidge in the PM. I even hit the NC visitor center "show hole," down from a gaggle of kids playing in the water and in view of several from the deck. A half doz ~15" ones in the PM. I couldn't raise the larger ones I targeted, despite the 2nd mayfly hatch.
