Yoho & I Hit 11 Mile Canyon And Joel's Cabin 21Apr22

Some breeze was predicted, and encountered, but a nice day in mid-60°s was had in 11 Mile Canyon fishing today. Plenty of fishermen were up at the head of the canyon with us as a couple of advanced fighter jets buzzed us, but we found our spots, and had to skip others due to occupation. We both caught plenty of fish but the bigger ones were more elusive this day. My nicest was a stout 18.5"er... and I caught some odd ones too: a skinny lady and a cutbow with a talon wound. The breeze kept the mayfly hatch down but still the purple RS2 garnered some fish which the bulk of the work was done on the blood midge or other zebra-like brownish midges. I did take a nice swim after a hookup and fight led me to trip on an unseen rock - sheesh - still arose and landed the fish though. That also led to a scare when I left my mayfly box on the car while drying out my vest at lunch - back on the water I thought I'd lost it.

After fishing we drove over to Joel Rauser's "cabin" near Flourisant for tubbin' and nosh. Joel's bought a nice 5 acre retreat 5 miles north of town and we enjoy quiet in the woods, a vision of his dev plan for the property and a new hot tub looking over Pikes Peak and the forest.
