Despite the strong singing of Masked Intruder's pop punk, I was a bit dubious on the mix and sound in the first balcony, and was wearing my Etymotic earplugs for all the sets. That is until The Interrupters took the stage. These guys are my favorite ska-punk band and are now in their 3rd studio album. Their show was excellent and the Ogden projected a great sound for their entire 100 minute set. The Interrupters and the the fan-ladden crowd were both very high energy this night - it was a blast. The Interrupters played back to back transitioned songs in 3 or 4 song increments with very little rest between these chunks, all night long. Band leader Kevin Bivona shredded throughout, bridging on occasion to perfect cover riffs of popular punk songs - giving his bandmates a bit of rest. His younger twin brothers brought serious beat on drums (Jesse Bivona) and bass (Justin Bivona) and they all sang backup to the incomparable Aimee Interrupter lead. We were very lucky to catch a show where keyboard/trombone artist Billy Kottage from fellow SoCal ska-punk band Reel Big Fish joined The Interrupters for the entire show. The movie link below (use PW: GR8F1sh to access it) shows the opening songs... A Friend Like Me & I Don't Wanna Die. What a great show at an excellent venue... Kala loved it; long live ska.
