Browns On The Run 10May22

I finally set out to the freestone section of the Ark in search of the caddis hatch. With Greg in Greece, I was on my own. I read some posts suggesting it passed through the Big Bend area two days ago so I started just south of Buena VIsta near Nathrop. Winds were howling and the river had doubled in size over the last couple days and flows were over 700cfs; it was pretty stained and casting was challenging, even with the RFT5. The 1st area was marked Nestle Ruby Mtn; I caught a couple smallish German-ish browns there on the MHRS2. No sign of the hatch but I did see some sheep and wind funnel.

There was not much water at this easement and someone upholed me before I reached the upstream boundary. NP - I hoped in the car and headed upstream to the Granite and Hardeman accesses. I caught more Scottish looking browns there, also on the RS2. No sign of caddis at either spot.

Not an epic day by any stretch ~ check the wind and the flows. After another hour or so I hopped out and headed for Silverthorne via the extra back way over Freemont Pass. The Silverthorne exit off I70 was a mess, as were Rt 6 and other local surface streets.
