No dog days in the mountains; I hit the Blue River below Green Mtn Rez and it was 58° as I jumped out of the car in the lot at 8:40am. There were five cars already but 3 were rafters; they've been chomping at the bit for here and the ~375cfs flows are good for them. At these flows and temps (water still cold and clear, but highish) this section fishes more like a freestone than a tailwater. I had a decent day with some larger fish to net. I saw evidence on the rocks of stoneflies so I started with a my #14 yellow & ice poxyback stone and then dropped a caddis and then a BWO (they are still ultimately coming off here about mid-day). That stone caught most of the fish. I caught a half doz over several hours with 2 decent browns like the 18"er shown and 4 good cutbow ladies with 3 larger: 1st a 20"er, then a 19"er, then a 21"er! I was pretty stoked as there was not much other evidence of catching. The Blue at Jurassic is fishing well I'd say, but the day didn't start that way as catching began 90min into the outing. The Rodfather Colorado shooting 6wt via the Piscifun AOKS was stellar, however, I left it on top of the car and drove off - it's probably gone from me but I expect someone snagged it and will hopefully appreciate it or reach out to me. It was a cool, though expensive, Affinity X custom build with REC hardware, too.
