I went fly fishing on the Blue River below Green Mtn Rez for 4 hours today and caught many fish, a lot in the rain. I ran my normal play of starting with a 2 mile hike downstream till cliffed out. On arrival at the low point to begin fishing, the drakes started coming off and I saw rising so I tied on a drake, and then another kind of dry drake... I caught only one and reloaded with my nymph rig of iron sally (stonefly) , BHFB hare's ear (kind of a drake nymph), and wired up ice caddis or ultimately my red bead FBPT PMD. All these bugs worked with the hares ear and PMD doing the most damage (I saw PMDs and red quills hatching too). I need to tie some righteous green drake nymphs and klinkhammer dry drakes that I prefer (but I've still not tied nearly enough to recover from last year's lost mayfly box). Nonetheless, fun day in the Green Mtn Canyon fishing, despite the rain. I took the repaired Rodfather Diamond Blaze and it served faithfully, fighting the bigger fish to net. The best fish again here were a 18" brown and a ~17" cutbow, but there were plenty of others. Ascent from the river to the car was tricky in the mud after the rain... I eagerly sought rocks on which to step.
