Gobs On The Gore ~ West Vail Was Great 14Aug24

It was beautiful in Vail Valley today. I arrived decently early at 8:45am to fish the lower section of Gore Ck above the confluence with the Eagle River. I loaded the ultralight Rodfather True 3 (8' 3wt 4pc) with a chubby, a BH caddis, and Cheeseman Emerger (since I'm out of DCEZWD40s). Nobody looked at the chubby but I caught several fish on the caddis on a full pass to I70. Meh, this section is still recovering IMO... I used to catch many more and much larger fish here than elsewhere on the Gore ~ not now.

After a couple hours I headed back to the car to run up I70 to West Vail to access the creek at the far west end of Vail, between the houses on each side of the stream. I had to blow this section off last outing here as it is a real dancing experiment and the flows were too high. It was perfect today @ ~70cfs and yielded ~15 fish, mostly smallish browns but a nice 17" rainbow and some decent browns. I lost rigs in the trees a couple times but chartreuse caddis, RS2, and black mylar Perdigon fooled the most fish. I had visions of hitting a home run but with only a double on the lower sections I didn't chase the brookies.
I even caught some fish in the show hole at the end of my West Vail run. Good day out in Eagle. On the way back I had to pickup Steve's and my cans from ORB, in a complete deluge as I hit Frisco... I got him the Mountain Magic as I knew he'd like the name.
