Blazing The Blue With A New Bonnet 01Aug24

Happy August. I took the repaired Rodfather Diamond Blaze down to the Blue below Green Mtn Rez today. The RFDB was great... handled just as prior, light and powerful I was late arriving at noon and parked among seven other cars. I made my typical hike in Jurassic Pk, downstream till cliffed out; I ended up passing everyone fishing I think. Water was fast and gin clear, but crossable with care (flows are 350cfs) - and I did so to fish the better side of the last accessed channel and tongue. Even though it was PM there were all manner of mayflies hatching: PMDs and green drakes especially ~ despite this, fish ignored most bugs on the surface. I did try some dries but got nothing that way. Nymphing was best for me and early the browns liked a yellow stone then a green stone; mayflies worked better later, with the BHFBPT and rainbow warrior especially useful. I caught plenty of smaller browns like the "flying fish." The best fish on the day were an 17" rainbow and an 18" German brown. Oh yeah, I lost my straw hat when I biffed on the Gore; I got a new one.
