Nice Elevenmile Canyon Outing 05Apr18

I set out for the PT and checked the flows at the 1st stop sign - oh no, they are jacked to 850cfs ~ need a new plan. I headed to 11Mile Canyon section of the So Platte. Several days ago the road was totally washboarded but fortunately it had been graded completely for my return. The river is very low ~50cfs and clear, and very crowded - I did not fish a number of better spots as they were already occupied. Nonetheless, I caught plenty. I fished from ~10:30am till 2:15pm with a break for lunch. I caught a number of good fish - all cutbows or rainbows. One was a super-fat 18" male full of sperm for the spawn (see him disgorging on the image). He was beat up and exhausted. Others were 16"-18" so good fish. Rainbow Warrior weight worked; Jimi's Ax worked; and a new color Candy Cane 2 Wire (red & gun metal blue with black tung head) I tied worked really well. I have a theory and I'm putting blue into more flies these days. I might've seen some BWOs but midge nymphing seemed the ticket. It was much nicer than the super cold and windy day here earlier in the week.
