Jim and I headed to the 11 Mile Canyon section of the So Platte today to avoid tomorrow's blizzard. We arrived ~10:45am as the sun began to shine on the water in the C&R section. Lot's of fishermen beat us to the head end but I still acquired my fav parking spot; I parked short of the 1ft deep mud puddle. Armed with the new nuke eggs and some keen Rameirez Money midges I'd tied with hot butts and root beer vinyl, we rigged and set out right adjacent to the Crusher, below the bridge. We insanely fished to the same 2 nice fish for 90min without a take. Sure he sat behind a rock facing downstream and slurped midges from an impossible drift back eddy - but we tried.
We moved upstream and fisherman started to peel off, leaving a few good spots open (to their unknowing dismay). Jim caught a cutbow on the first turn above the bridge on my venerable nuke egg. I caught two massive and strong alpha males in holes adjacent to the campground. Both were on the hot butt Money midges trailed behind the nuke eggs. On the 2nd, a 22"er, I swam briefly while maintaining tension - wet & cold finish but ultimately nabbing one of the bigger fish I've landed in 11 Mile Canyon. We can't ski but we still have the streams and trails.
It was super-f'n cold despite 45° temps, due to the clouds and wind that rolled in so we, like others, rolled on down the road. Spring satisfaction.
