Nest Theater Part Four - Measuring Alternative Horn Mouth And AV Integration 07Mar20

Today after some stellar lax games on ESPN I endeavored to compare the low end measurements of the two alternative lower horn mouth designs I built for the DRC BLHs. I've been running (and showing) mostly the EXPOnential horn mouth built as a solid stack but I also built a COMB filter lower mouth. Today I measured each, without subwoofer active,  and compared the measurements. They were surprisingly similar but the EXPO showed a sharper rolloff in the subwoofer frequencies. The higher end of low frequency response was nearly equivalent, as expected, and from 500Hz on up they were the same. Given that the HSU sub will be handling the very low end, the sharper rolloff of the EXPO is preferred. They are sound-wise and visually more pleasing to me as well. Anybody need a comb filter lower horn mouth?
I also completed integration of the current audio gear with a TV monitor and the Logitech Harmony remote control. I can now control JRiver MC using the remote. I can also control volume and source (MC or Roku) using the remote too but that will go away for a manual setup once the new electronics arrive and are built. I doubt I'll miss the convenience much. The TV too will ultimately be replaced and is really just a placeholder to listen to and test PCM from streaming stuff to see if I will miss Dolby surround at all or if the 2.1 setup is good enough for watching video. I'm sure it's fine for concert footage but might turn up wanting for a center channel on dialogue-heavy material like movies. We'll see. Music sounds awesome, even from YouTube and the like. I hope you all have listened to Neutral Milk Hotel... a really great album.
